Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan discussed issues of transboundary water allocation and agreed on the resumption of operation of border posts Tallymarjon - Tallymerjen and Druzhba - Gazojak, the Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan has reported. The Uzbek delegation at the talks was headed by Deputy Prime Minister Shukhrat Ganiev, and the Turkmen delegation by his colleague Annageldy Yazmyradov.
"Cooperation, friendship, and good neighborliness in the management of transboundary water resources are becoming ever stronger thanks to the prudent and far-sighted policies of the two heads of state," said a senior official from Ashgabat.
The information said that positive results had been achieved in improving water supplies in the Amu Darya Basin in recent years.
In particular, the sides analyzed the Tuyanskoye border water reservoir, which supplies water to the Khorezm region of Uzbekistan, Karakalpakstan, and the Tashauz region of Turkmenistan.
The parties discussed the abolition of the "rotational" regime for employees servicing water management facilities in Uzbekistan located in Turkmenistan and the automation of a joint water management system for the Amu Darya. In particular, the issues of bank consolidation and alignment of the Amu Darya River channel to reduce water losses were raised at the meeting.
The next meeting of the joint commission is scheduled for 2024 in Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan.
