The first particular child-friendly room was inaugurated at the Kopetdag police office of Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) participation.
The social project provides children with a safe and non-intimidating environment based on age, maturity, and psychological state. In addition, the room is designed for investigative purposes to protect girls and boys who have been victims or witnesses of potential crimes.
“Trauma resulting from a crime can have serious consequences for children, with significant impacts on their growth and development,” said Mohammad Fayyazi, UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan.
It is essential that in the pre-trial, protection measures are ensured for child victims and witnesses of crime. This facilitates their return to everyday life as soon as possible.”
The child-friendly room has a modern video and sound system to create a protective environment for children in the investigation process, significantly minimizing the trauma. In addition, this will help avoid the unnecessary repetition of interrogations.
