Turkmenistan Airlines, which recently purchased an A330-200P2F cargo aircraft from France's Airbus, has operated its first flight from Vietnam to Europe. In addition, the sole national carrier plans to establish cargo flights to South Korea, the Czech Republic, and Germany.
"We aim to establish the above cargo flights from Asia to Turkmenistan and from Turkmenistan to Europe, as well as establish regular transit flights."
The information says the Airbus acquisition has created ample opportunities to utilize better Turkmenistan's economic potential in a prime geographical location.
The A330-200 P2F, powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines, has a range of 13,408km and can freely operate international flights with up to 55,000kg of cargo.
It is the first aircraft in the local fleet from a European manufacturer. According to the contract, Turkmenistan expects to receive a second similar plane shortly.
Since 1992, Turkmenistan Airlines has worked under a long-term contract with the U.S. corporation Boeing. In addition, the local company has an IL-76 cargo aircraft (Russia) at its disposal.
