Turkmenistan has declared April 21 a day off on the occasion of Oraza Bayramy (Eid al-Adha), the Altyn Asyr TV channel reported.
The Turkmen President signed the relevant decree. Oraza Bayramy is an Islamic holiday marking the end of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. The holiday has been celebrated in Turkmenistan since 1998.
Daryo reported that 463 Turkmen prisoners were released on the holy Night of Omnipotence - Gadyr Gijesi, which falls during Ramadan (April 17-18).
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed the hope in his message to Muslims that "the grace of this great night of the holy month of Oraz will strengthen national unity even more, increase our love for our sovereign Fatherland!".
By tradition, in this blessed month, joint meals are held, alms are given for the souls of the departed, tarava namaz is read in mosques, and prayers are offered for peace on earth.
