A classified US intelligence assessment suggests that there are plans being prepared to purposefully lose the war in Ukraine while Russian President Vladimir Putin receives treatment for his suspected cancer, "Mirror" reports.
The leak included secret papers including vital data on countries such as South Korea, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to internal Kremlin military leadership debates.
By the allegation, Russian National Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev and Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov are said to be plotting to "throw" the war and destabilize Putin's leadership. Another undisclosed memo indicates a coup attempt against Putin.
The document is designated as top secret and was acquired through communications surveillance, implying that only officials with sufficient security clearances or intelligence operatives from Five Eyes alliance members are permitted to examine its details.
According to an unnamed Russian source with links to Kremlin officials, Russia intended to shift resources from Taganrog, Russia, to Mariupol, Ukraine, and concentrate on the southern front, but Gerasimov was believed to have opposed the invasion, advising Putin that the Ukrainian armed forces had greater resources and that Russia could face significant casualties if the invasion went ahead.
Gerasimov pledged to "throw" the so-called special military operation by March 5, when Putin was told to start chemotherapy, and thereby impact the war effort.
