On March 27, a buyer bought an iPhone for counterfeit money in the Yangihayot district of Tashkent. The capital's General Directorate of Internal Affairs information service, on April 6, clarified the situation.
26-year-old N.Sh. announced that he would sell the iPhone 12 Pro phone for UZS 5.9mn. Soon, a stranger contacted him, saying he wanted to buy the phone.
The citizen met the buyer at the bus stop in front of the 3rd subway station in Yangihayat district. The stranger almost did not bargain, gave the agreed money to N. and took the phone. However, when the citizen counted the cash, he suspected some money was counterfeit. With this in mind, he applied to the Main Department of Internal Affairs of Tashkent City.
Ten pieces of UZS 200,000 and 5 of UZS 100,000, totaling UZS 2.5mn, were taken from N. To identify these currency units, an examination was conducted by the experts of the Center of Expert Criminalistics of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of Tashkent city. As a result, these currency units were found to be counterfeit.
A criminal case was initiated under Article 176 of the Criminal Code (making and transferring counterfeit money, excise stamps, or securities) under the coordination department of the internal affairs body of Yangihayot district. The investigation is underway.
