The Minister of Economy of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili, visited Tashkent to participate in the 9th Intergovernmental Commission on Georgian-Uzbek Economic Cooperation session. Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khojaev received him in the capital of Uzbekistan. The two sides expressed interest in boosting bilateral trade, including through the tourism sector.
The meeting between Davitashvili and Khojayev was devoted to increasing the two countries' trade turnover. One of the areas discussed at the talks - is tourism: last year, the tourist flow from Uzbekistan to Georgian resorts increased by 32%, media reports.

The Minister of Economy of Georgia stressed that Tbilisi considers Tashkent a strategic partner and friend, and the Georgian government would like to strengthen cooperation with Uzbekistan. He noted with satisfaction that the two countries' trade turnover increased by 40% last year.

The intergovernmental commission meeting signed a protocol on the conclusion of bilateral negotiations on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO.
