According to the US, Russia plans to send an official delegation to Pyongyang to offer North Korea food in exchange for weapons, a Pentagon spokesman John Kirby informs. He said that any agreement between Russia and North Korea, including an arms deal, would violate a United Nations Security Council resolution.
The US has previously accused the DPRK of supplying weapons to the Russian military and Wagner mercenaries, a charge Pyongyang has categorically denied.
At the press conference, John Kirby said that the US now has new information about a possible deal between Moscow and Pyongyang.
"As far as we know, Russia is going to send a delegation to North Korea and offer them food in exchange for ammunition," - he said.
"The United States is closely monitoring developments and the proposed agreement," - Kirby added.
On March 30, the US Department of Finance blacklisted Slovak citizen Ashot Mkrtichev, who mediated the negotiations between Moscow and Pyongyang. According to the representatives of the ministry, Mkrtichev organized a series of deals and trades, which allowed North Korea to send weapons to Russia in exchange for foreign currency, civilian aircraft, goods, and raw materials in late 2022-early 2023.
