The spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Wenbin, pointed to the inviolability of the heads of state and called for a diplomatic solution to the military conflict in Ukraine.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that the International Criminal Court, which issued the arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin, should take an objective and impartial position in this matter and avoid double standards.
"Beijing will continue to play an impartial and fair role in the Ukraine crisis," - Wang Wenbin said.
It is noted that the representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry made such a statement on March 20, before the start of Xi Jinping's visit to Moscow. He pointed to the inviolability of the heads of state in accordance with international law and called for the resolution of the military conflict through dialogue and negotiations.
Wang Wenbin also noted that China will take a constructive position in the possible peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
On March 17, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin. He is suspected of illegally deporting children from the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia. A similar warrant was issued against the Russian children's ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova.
The Kremlin called the ICJ decision "outrageous" while saying that Russia does not recognize the court's jurisdiction. The Russian Foreign Ministry said the warrant was "irrelevant". Putin himself did not comment on the decision of the HICJ.
