Mikhail Podoliak, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, commented on the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the annexed Mariupol. Podolyak left a relevant tweet on his page
"The criminal always returns to the crime scene. While the countries of the civilized world are announcing that the 'director of war' (Putin) will be arrested if he crosses the border, the man responsible of the murder of thousands of Mariupol families came to see the ruins of the city and mass graves," said Podoliak.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine notes that "Putin visited Mariupol at night like a thief."
"The night allows to show only what he wants, after which the target audience will not see a city completely destroyed by the Russian army," the ministry said in a statement.
People's Deputy of Ukrain Alexey Goncharenko reacted to whether Putin was really in Mariupol. He said that in the footage released by the Russian media, Putin gave way to the cars that went off the road, which is usually the opposite. The deputy noted that a curfew was introduced in the city, and in the footage, Putin was greeted by people in the evening.
Western media called the visit "a response" to the International Criminal Court, which issued a warrant for Putin's arrest. Putin has not commented on the warrant for his arrest, although the likelihood of an arrest in the near future is extremely low.
