Three agreements on investment and purchase of electricity were signed between ACWA Power Company of Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, and the joint-stock company "National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan", the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan reports.
The agreements include the introduction of two solar photovoltaic power plants with a total capacity of 1,400 MW in Tashkent and Samarkand regions and three energy storage systems with a total capacity of 1,200 MW in Tashkent, Bukhara, and Samarkand regions.
The construction of a large solar photoelectric plant with a capacity of 400 MW was started in Tashkent region as a part of the summit. After the commissioning of this power plant, 900 million kWh of electricity will be produced per year. This will save 257 million cubic meters of natural gas, and 360,000 tons of harmful gases will be prevented from being released into the atmosphere.
ACWA Power is currently building 5 power plants with a total capacity of 4,100 MW in Uzbekistan, in particular, 4 wind power plants with a capacity of 2,600 MW and 1 modern thermal power plant with a capacity of 1,500 MW. The modern thermal power plant is being built by the company in the Syrdarya region and will be put into operation this year.
When these projects are launched, they will allow the provision of electricity to 1.2 million households in the territory of the republic and prevent the release of about 1.6 million tons of harmful gases per year.
