Russian company Vozrozhdeniye from St. Petersburg is modernizing the Turkmenbashi - Garabogaz - Kazakhstan border highway.
The Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper says the project will expand international infrastructure and significantly strengthen trade with neighboring states.
Concern Turkmennavtoyollary (Turkmen Highways) told Daryo that the total length of the transnational highway would be 225 kilometers. In addition, the width of the earth bed will be increased more than twofold to 22.5 meters, and the width of the carriageway will be increased to 15 meters.
Car parks, service stations, catering, and commercial facilities will be built along the highway.
As part of this project, a new road bridge will be built across Garabogaz Bay, entrusted to Altcom (Ukraine). Its length will be about 300-400 meters, which will optimize the transportation of mineral fertilizers from the new industrial cluster built in western Turkmenistan.
Kazakhstan has already done the necessary work for the road connection from its territory. In 2019, the 73-km long Zhetybai-Zhanaozen-Kenderli (Kazakhstan)-Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan border) road was reconstructed. In addition, the two countries are discussing the possibility of creating a unique border trade zone at the border.
