Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kasim-Jomart Tokayev held an informal meeting on March 3 in the city of Shymkent. The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Aybek Smadiyarov, explained why the meeting was organized in Shymkent. Nur.kz reports.
According to Smadiyarov, the Presidents decided to meet in Shymkent, because it is a large city with a million inhabitants and close to Uzbekistan.
“We are actively developing trade, transit potential, and cultural relations with our southern neighbour. Therefore, it is logical that it should be in Shymkent and not in other cities of Kazakhstan," he said.
"I am very happy that the leaders of the Central Asian countries can meet at any time and discuss some issues in the spirit of neighbourliness and brotherhood," Aybek Smadiyarov added.
On March 3, the presidents of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan held an informal meeting in Shymkent to discuss the further strengthening of strategic partnership and alliance relations between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
