'The question of how we want to see Central Asia in 2030 is fundamental. We will not be able to move forward without agreeing on our approaches on this issue', the Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan (ISRS) Eldor Aripov said at the Central Asia 2030: Visions of the Future expert meeting in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana on Friday (January 20), Dunyo reports.
According to ISRS Director, ‘the ideal model of Central Asia is a consolidated and cohesive region, free from internal disputes and contradictions, united by common interests and priorities, based on shared values and traditions’.
‘The main thing we should focus on is overcoming the existing fundamental differences that still hamper regional cooperation processes, including settlement of border disputes. Borders should link us together, not disconnect us’, Eldor Aripov added.
In this context, he stressed that the President of Uzbekistan has repeatedly noted that ‘our borders can and should become bridges of friendship and good neighborliness’.
The second element of the ideal model can and should be - Central Asia, which has at its disposal all the necessary platforms and mechanisms for dialogue and cooperation, the ISRS Director Eldor Aripov stressed, adding that the third element of the ideal model of Central Asia in 2030 lies in its the regional identity.
