Leading German media once again corrected their articles about the Uzbek businessman Alisher Usmanov which accused him of money laundering, tax evasion and violation of EU sanctions. This was reported by the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung.
On January 12, Alisher Usmanov's lawyers managed to force the DPA and other media outlets that reprinted it to correct their articles. DPA and several dozen other German publications had to rectify their September materials. The German online resources web.de and the Westfalenpost newspaper, owned by the Funke media group, also announced the deletion of their articles about Usmanov after receiving pre-trial claims from representatives of the businessman.
In September 2022, large-scale searches were carried out in Germany at 24 sites allegedly related to Alisher Usmanov. Then, one of most influential German news agency DPA stated in its report that the owner of the searched "house on Lake Tegernsee" was Alisher Usmanov. As it turned out, Usmanov in Germany is accused of money laundering, tax evasion and violation of EU sanctions. However, according to the Berliner Zeitung, no evidence has yet been provided to the public on these claims of the German authorities.
On September 27, representatives of Alisher Usmanov commented on reports of raids on villas and facilities in Germany allegedly owned by the Russian billionaire. In particular, the representatives of the businessman said that the Russian billionaire "has never been a tax resident of Germany", so there can be no questions about tax evasion for him. In general, Usmanov’s press service considers the accusations “groundless and slanderous”, and the searches and the appearance of publications about this in the media are “political persecution of a philanthropist who is only guilty of having assets in Russia.”
