On January 17, Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Singapore on his state visit with the country's President Halima Yaqub and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the president's press service reports.
The President of Singapore officially welcomed the head of state at the Istana Palace with a state guard lining up in honour of the high-ranking guest.
Then, in honour of the President of Uzbekistan, a ceremony was held to name a new variety of orchids, which is the national symbol of Singapore.
According to tradition, Shavkat Mirziyoyev placed a plaque next to the flower with the name of a new type of orchid - "Shavkat Mirziyoyev orchid".
After that, the presidents held a bilateral meeting. It was noted that Uzbekistan and Singapore understand each other well on the issues of regional stability and consistent development in international arenas and help each other in promoting initiatives in this regard.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Halima Yakub to visit Uzbekistan before he held talks with the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, at the "Istana" residence.
The leaders comprehensively reviewed the current state and prospects of cooperation and noted that the number of joint ventures has increased 4 times. The volume of direct investments from this country to the economy of our country has reached 700 million dollars.
Taking this into account, the head of state indicated five main directions of cooperation with Singapore in the near future.
- To develop the human capital and training of highly qualified personnel for public administration. With the participation of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, it was agreed to jointly implement a program to train and improve the skills of civil servants in the fields of management, urban planning, infrastructure development, digital transformation, innovation, education and health. Also, on the basis of the Academy of Public Administration of Uzbekistan, an intensive retraining program for civil servants will be launched, involving leading experts from Singapore.
- To actively involve Singapore in privatization processes in Uzbekistan. It was proposed to create a joint Investment Fund for the transformation and structural change of state-owned enterprises, their subsequent IPO and attracting foreign investments.
- To prioritize the involvement of advanced "green" technologies and digital solutions. Implementation of Singapore's achievements in the field of digitization, as well as opportunities to apply the country's innovations and technologies for "green" development, were discussed.
- To cooperate in the fields of urban planning and construction, greening, and utilities. The first step in this regard was the agreement on the establishment of a joint design and engineering centre for the implementation of infrastructure and network projects in Uzbekistan.
- To expand the investments and mutual trade, promoting joint projects with leading companies of Singapore.
An agreement was reached on the establishment of an Uzbekistan-Singapore investment company with a charter capital of 500 million dollars. In addition, the parties exchanged views on current issues of the international and regional agenda.
At the end of the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Li Xiang Lun to visit Uzbekistan at his convenience.
After the negotiations, a bilateral document exchange ceremony took place where 8 documents aimed at further expansion of Uzbekistan-Singapore cooperation at the level of governments, ministries and agencies of the two countries were signed.
In particular, agreements on cooperation in the fields of education, transport, health care, and human resources, including the training of civil servants were adopted. Agreements were also reached on trade and economic partnership and cooperation between the prosecutor's offices of the two countries.
In the afternoon, Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the School of Public Policy named after Lee Kuan Yew and held a meeting with leaders of leading Singapore companies before returning to Tashkent.
