The head of the "Rus sidyashaya" foundation, Journalist Olga Romanova, informed that "Wagner" group recruited prisoners from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Africa in Russian prisons.
It is reported that recruiting foreign citizens to fight in Ukraine is illegal. According to the Federal Law "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in Russia", foreign citizens cannot be conscripted into military service.
"Everything Wagner is doing is illegal, so the level of illegality doesn't matter to them. Yes, foreign prisoners of war are being recruited and they are dying. We also know cases of extrajudicial executions of citizens of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan," Romanova said.
Earlier, the USA announced that the "Wagner" group had sent 40,000 prisoners to the war in Ukraine. It is noted that 90 percent of the mercenaries of "Wagner" are prisoners. In January, six prisoners, including citizens of Uzbekistan, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan, escaped from the training center of the private military company "Wagner" in the Lugansk region. The mercenaries escaped when they were supposed to go to the combat zone.
In addition, "Wagner" began to involve Chechen prisoners in the war against Ukraine. In Russia, female prisoners were also recruited into the war. The armed forces of Ukraine noted that Russia is making up for its losses in the war at the expense of migrant workers from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
