Kyrgyz State Secretary Suyinbek Kasmambetov called on the Central Asian countries to return to historical unity during his speech at a media forum held in Kazakhstan.
According to Kasmambetov, after the dissolution of the USSR, the five Central Asian countries eventually gained independence, determined their strategic goals and actively engaged in their development model.
"This is a difficult path. The regional identity was forgotten, and everyone was occupied with their internal problems. In 30 years of independence, all the countries of Central Asia formed international cooperation and toiled a long way toward development," the State Secretary of Kyrgyzstan said.
Suyinbek Kasmambetov noted that today he is represented as the only participant in the communication platforms of Central Asia.
"We interact with all interested external geo-political players in Central Asia like China, Turkey, Russia, European Union, USA, India, Japan, Korea, and Iran. But the main problem is that they have their views on the region. We do not have such a common opinion. As a region, we are following other stakeholders’ agenda," the speaker underscored.
"We are united geographically; we have a common language and historic, cultural, and religious roots. For 30 years, we have not yet become a single geopolitical power. Therefore, it is necessary to be aware of common cultural backgrounds. I think we should start a discussion on this. To return to historical unity, it is necessary to involve the intellectual elite in dialogue," he added.
