December 17. 31 people were killed when an oil tanker overturned and caught fire in the Salang tunnel in the Parwan region of Afghanistan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan issued an official statement on the situation.
“It is with deep sadness that we received the news that there were many victims as a result of the explosion of a fuel truck in the Salang tunnel. We express our condolences to the family members and relatives of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” the statement says.
31 people are said to have been killed and 37 injured after a liquefied gas tanker exploded in the tunnel after the fire.
The darkness inside the tunnel made it difficult to control the fire and rescue people. Officials predict that the death toll may rise again. According to witnesses, the fire burned in front of the family members of a man. Many people from the north of Afghanistan are going to the place of the accident to search for their family members.
At the same time, the Ministry of Public Works of "Taliban" reported that the fire brigade put out the ravaging flame. Currently, the Salang tunnel is closed and the Taliban has banned traffic in this direction. According to updated statistics, about 100 people died in this incident.
