Changes in electricity and natural gas tariffs are underway in Uzbekistan. The Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Jamshid Kochkarov announced this at the meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
"A lot of things were said and done in the energy sector. But we won’t see the immediate result soon and open market principles will continue to be implemented in this area. Work on creating wholesale and retail markets for electricity and natural gas is ongoing. If the market is opened, the production volume of natural gas and electricity will increase due to investment. There is no other way. We do not have the opportunity to implement such large funds at the expense of the elevating state debt.
Tariffs are definitely being worked on. It is obvious that something needs to be done about it. But I can assure you that the sections of the population that need social protection will not see this change at all," said the minister.
Earlier, Jamshid Kochkarov spoke about important economic changes expected in Uzbekistan in the future.
