Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday (October 13) that Asian countries play a key role in the world becoming "truly multipolar".
"Russia is doing its utmost to provide critical production to the countries that need them. We call for the elimination of all artificial, illegitimate barriers that prevent the restoration of the normal functioning of global supply chains in order to solve urgent tasks in food security. Like many of our partners in Asia, we believe we need to change how the global financial system works, that has - for decades - allowed the self-proclaimed 'golden billion', which has locked up all the flows of capital and technology, to live largely at the expense of others."
Putin made the remarks at the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) summit in the Kazakh capital, Astana.
Putin is expected to hold a raft of bilateral meetings, including with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Qatari emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
