Finland has allocated 1.5 million euros for the implementation of a project in the field of rule of law in Uzbekistan, Dunyo News Agency reports.
According to the embassy of Uzbekistan in Riga, the project will be implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) representative office in Uzbekistan and is designed for 3 years. The relevant document was signed by Ilkka Raisanen, Ambassador of Finland to Uzbekistan, and Matilda Dimovska, representative of UNDP.
The project aims to increase access to justice for low-income people by expanding free legal aid, strengthening the central and regional capacity of the ombudsman's office to protect and promote the human rights of vulnerable groups, and solidifying civil society's capacity to respect justice and human rights.
The Center for the Rule of Law at the University of Helsinki will send experts for the project implementation, headed by the country's former Minister of Justice Tuya Braks.
"The rule of law is one of the three main areas of cooperation defined in the country strategy for Central Asia until 2024 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, which is sustainable economic development and improvement of natural resources management. The total amount of assistance to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan within the framework of the strategy is 25 million euros," the report said.
