The number of initiatives put forward by Uzbekistan in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has reached 54. Bahromjon Sotiboldiev, head of the department of the Institute of Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President informs.
The expert said that over the past years, Uzbekistan has initiated many important proposals, and their total number is 54.
Central Asia’s most populous state has chaired the SCO three times: in 2005-2006, 2009-2010 and 2015-2016 before succeeding it the fourth time in 2021. During this period, Uzbekistan put forward different regional and international initiatives such as an establishment of a regional anti-terrorist unit within the framework of the SCO which is now headquartered in the city of Tashkent.
"Another important initiative was the development of a mechanism for accepting new members to the SCO. After that, India and Pakistan became members of the organization. Iran is on the verge of becoming a full-fledged member of the Organization.
"Uzbekistan's initiatives after 2017 served to develop not only security, but also economic, transport-logistics, cultural-humanitarian, and tourism cooperation," the expert noted.
