The Law "On Advertising" has come into force in Uzbekistan on September 9 which comprises new concepts such as unethical advertising inappropriate advertising, and incentive campaign.
According to the law, the advertisement must be in the Uzbek language, and the translation should not distort its main meaning in the state language.
The Consumer Rights Protection Agency under the Anti-Monopoly Committee is a competent state body to monitor.
The right to install outdoor advertising objects on state-owned land plots and buildings can be given for a period of 5 years via open e-auctions.
The new law interdicts:
• advertising products that replace breast milk;
• advertising goods in printed publications (textbooks, diaries, notebooks, etc.) used in educational institutions;
• displaying advertised product price in foreign currency;
• advertising information products without indicating age classification in the cases stipulated by the law on the protection of children from harmful information;
• use of forms, phrases and images that contradict national and family traditions, as well as generally accepted norms of morality and spirituality;
• advertisement of energy drinks on television and radio from 7:00 to 22:00;
• advertising of tobacco products and devices containing tobacco and nicotine.
The Law bans the involvement of celebrities, medical personnel or persons who look like doctors in the advertising of medicinal products.
Advertising of strong alcohol products is not allowed, but the advertising of beer and natural and sparkling wines produced in Uzbekistan is allowed in some cases.
