President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea reinforced their nations' enduring strategic partnership at the Koksaroy residence on June 14.
The gathering marked the 32nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the fifth anniversary of their special strategic partnership.
President Mirziyoyev extended a warm welcome to President Yoon and congratulated him on the milestones achieved in bilateral relations over the past decades. Discussions during the meeting encompassed pivotal areas such as political collaboration, trade and economic ties, technological advancements, and cultural exchanges, highlighting the robust nature of relations between Uzbekistan and South Korea.
Trade figures were a focal point, with Uzbekistan recognizing South Korea as a leading partner in trade and investment. The burgeoning tourism sector, buoyed by 10 weekly flights connecting Tashkent and Seoul, further exemplifies the expanding bilateral economic ties.
Both leaders affirmed their commitment to establishing a new partnership model aimed at harnessing untapped cooperation potentials, particularly in high-tech projects.
The success of Uzbekistan's cultural-humanitarian exchanges, including the operation of four Korean university branches and over 11,000 Uzbek students studying in South Korea, was highlighted as a testament to deepening people-to-people ties.
Symbolic landmarks such as the House of Korean Culture, Multidisciplinary Children's Clinic, Seoul Park, and Seoul Street in Tashkent were stressed as embodiments of the growing friendship and cooperation between the nations.
President Mirziyoyev and President Yoon also emphasized the importance of mutual support within international organizations and discussed regional cooperation frameworks, the "Central Asia - Republic of Korea" format. They stressed a shared interest in bolstering security and defense cooperation, particularly in combating cybercrimes, terrorism, and extremism.
The meeting concluded with both presidents reaffirming their determination to elevate Uzbekistan-South Korea relations to new heights, building on their long-standing partnership and mutual respect.
