Sunview Group Bhd has taken a step towards expanding its renewable energy portfolio with the signing of a development and cooperation agreement in Uzbekistan. The Malaysian conglomerate’s subsidiary, Fabulous Sunview Sdn Bhd, finalized the agreement with Uzbekistan’s energy ministry to undertake the development of two large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) plants coupled with battery energy storage systems (BESS).
According to a disclosure to Bursa Malaysia, Sunview’s subsidiary will spearhead the development of a 400-megawatt alternating current (MWac) solar PV plant along with a 100-megawatt (MW) / 200 megawatt-hour (MWh) BESS in Uzbekistan’s Andijan district. Additionally, the agreement includes plans for a 200 MWac solar PV plant paired with a 50MW/100MWh BESS in the Fergana district.
HP Ong, Group Executive Director and CEO of Sunview Group highlighted the strategic importance of these projects, emphasizing their role in enhancing the group’s financial prospects in the foreseeable future. Ong pointed out that these developments are bolstered by favorable tariff structures for solar PV and BESS, which will support long-term profitability.
Beyond economic benefits, Ong stressed the projects’ contribution to Uzbekistan’s ambitious renewable energy goals.
"These projects will also accelerate Uzbekistan’s transition to renewable energy, helping the nation to achieve a 40% contribution from renewable sources by 2030," he stated.
By expanding the share of renewables in Uzbekistan’s energy mix, Sunview Group aims not only to ensure a stable energy supply but also to significantly reduce the nation’s carbon footprint.
