At the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres paid an official visit to Uzbekistan on June 30. Upon his arrival, the high-ranking guest was welcomed by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and other officials.
This visit is aimed at deepening and expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations. During his two-day stay, Secretary-General Guterres is scheduled to engage in high-level talks in Tashkent. These discussions will focus on enhancing Uzbekistan’s collaboration with the UN and its various institutions. Additionally, current aspects of global politics and regional cooperation are on the agenda.
A vital portion of the talks will concentrate on supporting measures to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) in Uzbekistan. The country has been actively working towards these objectives, and the UN’s support is crucial in advancing these efforts.
During his visit, Secretary-General Guterres will tour a number of industrial and social facilities in Uzbekistan. These visits will provide insights into Uzbekistan’s development initiatives and the potential areas for enhanced cooperation with the UN. In addition, the Secretary-General will hold bilateral meetings and participate in various events, further solidifying the relationship between Uzbekistan and the United Nations.
