A delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov, participated in the "UN Public Service Forum 2025," held in South Korea from June 24-26. The Dunyo news agency reports that during this event, UN Deputy Secretary-General Li Junhua, who heads the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), announced that Samarkand, Uzbekistan, will host the forum in 2025.
Minister Sherzod Shermatov, speaking at the forum, emphasized Uzbekistan’s commitment to organizing the 2025 event at a high level. He extended an invitation to participants to visit Samarkand, highlighting the city's rich historical and cultural heritage.
During his visit to South Korea, Minister Shermatov held a bilateral meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General Li Junhua. The discussions focused on the development of the e-government sector in Uzbekistan. Li Junhua praised the significant advancements and ongoing reforms in this area, acknowledging Uzbekistan's efforts to improve its standing in the UN e-government development ranking by 2030.
The meeting also covered ways to enhance ICT infrastructure and further improve Uzbekistan's e-government ranking. Both parties agreed on the importance of long-term cooperation and discussed strategies to elevate the position of youth in the IT field. Li Junhua offered recommendations to ensure the successful organization of the UN Public Service Forum in Samarkand and emphasized the need for continued systemic reforms.
Uzbekistan has made notable strides in e-government, implementing reforms to increase transparency, efficiency, and accessibility in public services. The country aims to be among the top nations in the UN e-government development ranking by 2030, a goal that aligns with its broader vision of digital transformation.
