Strategic China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway project agreement signed in Beijing

The signing ceremony was marked by video messages from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, President Xi Jinping of China, and President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan.

    Presidential Messages

President Mirziyoyev addressed the participants via video, highlighting the significance of the project. He emphasized,

"The beginning of the implementation of this important infrastructure project is a historical event aimed at strengthening the economic and transport connectivity in our vast region."

    He further stated,

"This railway will become the shortest land route connecting China with our region. In the future, this road will allow our countries to enter the wide markets of South Asia and the Middle East through the promising Trans-Afghan corridor."

    Economic and Strategic Implications

The construction of the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway is expected to have far-reaching economic impacts. According to President Mirziyoyev, the economic effect resulting from the implementation of the project will be manifested in the creation of new enterprises and tens of thousands of jobs, the doubling of the volume of mutual trade, the expansion of industrial cooperation, the growth of investment attractiveness and, most importantly, the increase in the standard of living of the population.

The railway is projected to become the shortest land route linking China to Central Asia, significantly reducing transit times and boosting regional trade. Experts estimate that the annual cargo transportation volume could reach 15 mn tons, with delivery times to final consumers reduced to seven days.

    Project Route and Infrastructure Development

As per to the agreement, the railway will follow the route Kashgar-Torugart-Makmal-Jalalabad-Andijan. This route is strategically chosen to maximize connectivity and economic benefits. The project will also involve the development of modern transit and logistics infrastructure, including warehouses and terminals, to support the increased flow of goods.

in May, Kyrgyzstan's President, Sadyr Japarov, has revealed intentions to initiate the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway in October 2024.
