President Mirziyoyev reviews China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction progress

President Mirziyoyev reviews China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction progress

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev presided over a presentation on May 6, highlighting the progress and future trajectory of railway projects in Uzbekistan, presidential press service reported on May 6.

The period of Uzbekistan's independence has witnessed remarkable strides in railway development, with over 2,400 kilometers of new railways constructed and commissioned, and an additional 3,000 kilometers electrified. This expansion has been complemented by the establishment of a comprehensive railway system equipped with modern infrastructure, catering to the diverse needs of the population and various economic sectors.

Furthermore, Uzbekistan's railway sector has seen the integration of heavy machinery and the development of a foundry metallurgical industry, enhancing its self-sufficiency and contributing to its operational efficiency. Today, the country's railway network serves as a reliable and effective means of connecting all areas and regions, facilitating intra-country mobility and commerce.

Beyond its domestic significance, Uzbekistan's railway network plays a crucial role in international trade, positioning the country as a vital link between East and West, South and North. The nation's active investment policies and favorable business conditions have reinforced its status as a key crossroad of trade routes, bolstering its transit potential and global connectivity.

During the presentation, emphasis was placed on the continued expansion and modernization of Uzbekistan's transport and logistics infrastructure to harness its full potential. The imperative to diversify transport corridors was underscored as a means to enhance convenience for entrepreneurs and expand export opportunities.

Of particular note was the discussion surrounding the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, a significant component of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative. Experts anticipate that this transregional transport corridor will not only benefit the three countries involved but also catalyze development across the entire Central Asian region.

Additionally, insights were shared regarding the establishment of new transport corridors linking Central Asia with South Asia, further enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic integration.

President Mirziyoyev also issued directives to prioritize the development of aviation infrastructure, with plans to transform Uzbekistan's airports into international transit hubs. Furthermore, efforts to construct and upgrade modern highways were emphasized, aligning with the government's commitment to advancing multi-modal transportation networks and bolstering the country's position as a key player in regional and global trade dynamics.

Earlier Daryo reported that Oman and Uzbekistan were in discussions to enhance the 'Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman' transport corridor.
