VEON launched Hambi, a super app that combines multiple digital services into one platform for mobile users in Uzbekistan on November 1. The name "Hambi," which translates to "everything here" or "all-in-one" in Uzbek, reflects the app's purpose of streamlining access to various services.
Hambi integrates offerings from VEON’s existing brands, including telecom services (Beeline), fintech solutions (Beepul), e-commerce (Beemarket), and entertainment (Kinom). It also introduces new services through partnerships, such as telemedicine (Davo), car insurance (Auto), and air ticket booking (Kettik).
This launch marks a shift for VEON, which was primarily a telecom operator in Uzbekistan five years ago, primarily known for Beeline. With the development of an ecosystem that encompasses payments, marketplaces, and entertainment, the need for a centralized platform became clear.
Hambi serves as that single entry point, allowing users to manage various tasks without switching between multiple apps. Users can now purchase equipment, top up phone accounts, transfer money, watch sports, book flights, and access online medical consultations—all within the Hambi app.
The concept of super apps, exemplified by services like WeChat in China, highlights the convenience and versatility of having numerous functionalities within a single application. WeChat, which has over 1.5bn users, serves as a digital ecosystem for messaging, payments, social networking, and more, illustrating the potential of super apps to enhance user experience and engagement.
VEON’s CEO, Kaan Terzioglu, highlighted the importance of super apps in the company's Digital Operator 1440 strategy, which aims to provide essential services 1,440 minutes a day. He emphasized the goal of making digital services accessible and convenient for users, particularly in local languages.
The introduction of Hambi follows VEON’s recent launch of the KINOM entertainment platform, which offers streaming services for local content. The company has seen success with similar super apps in other countries, such as MyBeeline in Kazakhstan and Simosa in Pakistan, and is looking to replicate that success in Uzbekistan with Hambi.
As a super app, Hambi is designed to evolve continuously, with potential for future integrations of music streaming, video calls, and more, addressing the diverse needs of its users.
