President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held expanded-format talks in Dushanbe during Japarov’s state visit to Tajikistan. The two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional, and international issues, with a focus on strengthening political dialogue, boosting economic cooperation, and promoting good-neighborly relations.

President Rahmon welcomed President Japarov, describing the visit as a sign of mutual interest in building stable and dynamic relations between the two countries. He emphasized that Tajikistan places particular importance on enhancing political dialogue and comprehensive cooperation with Kyrgyzstan. Rahmon expressed confidence that the outcomes of the talks would take bilateral ties to a new level and set a clear direction for future collaboration.
In response, President Japarov expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality and noted that in earlier narrow-format talks with President Rahmon, both sides addressed key aspects of Kyrgyz-Tajik relations. With the completion of the legal registration of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, he said, the focus of negotiations can now shift toward deepening trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties.

Japarov stressed that active political dialogue remains essential for building trust and advancing good-neighborly relations.
“We are on the threshold of launching full-scale bilateral cooperation, which will cover a wide range of areas,” he stated.
The president of Kyrgyzstan proposed utilizing all available and new mechanisms for interstate cooperation, including the resumption of the Supreme Interstate Coordination Council, the creation of an inter-parliamentary mechanism, the continuation of border demarcation efforts, and the establishment of a permanent forum or council for cooperation between border regions.

The Kyrgyz leader highlighted that the holding of a business forum and the signing of agreements between business representatives during the visit would help unlock new opportunities in trade and economic relations.
He also stressed the importance of boosting interaction between border regions, not only in trade but also in cultural and humanitarian fields. Japarov proposed hosting joint cultural events and exhibitions, including the concert “Eternal Friendship,” to help bring the peoples of the two nations closer together.

In addition to cultural initiatives, Japarov expressed interest in collaborating on mountain-related challenges. As both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are mountainous countries, he proposed joint efforts to support sustainable mountain development, improve infrastructure, reduce the risks of natural disasters, and combat climate change.
Japarov also noted that documents and cooperation programs signed during previous visits are already helping to transform border areas into zones of friendship and cooperation. With the reopening of borders, he said, there has been a noticeable revival in border trade, cultural ties, youth initiatives, and sporting events.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Japarov expressed confidence that his visit would give fresh momentum to Kyrgyz-Tajik relations and open broad opportunities for deepening mutually beneficial cooperation in all priority areas.

As part of the visit, several documents were signed and exchanged, including:
- A joint statement by the two presidents,
- An agreement on confidence-building measures,
- An agreement establishing a Kyrgyz-Tajik Intergovernmental Council,
- Sectoral agreements on tourism, standardization, civil service, social protection, and environmental cooperation,
- Memoranda between research institutions and media organizations,
- A cooperation program between the foreign ministries for 2026–2027,
- An action plan for industrial and technology cooperation (2025–2026),
- An agreement to establish a bilateral Business Council.
These agreements are expected to provide a robust framework for long-term collaboration and regional integration between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
