Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held discussions with the management of Italian firms Maire Tecnimont and Ansaldo Energia, focusing on the localization of production and the implementation of agreements made during a Kazakh-Italian round table in January.
During talks with Ansaldo Energia CEO Fabrizio Fabbri, both sides emphasized enhancing energy infrastructure efficiency using advanced technologies. Ansaldo Energia's expertise in gas and steam turbines was highlighted as a promising area for collaboration.
As part of an existing agreement, Ansaldo Energia will manufacture two gas turbines for Almaty CHPP-3. The parties expressed a mutual interest in localizing the production of components for gas turbine units within Kazakhstan. This initiative aims to establish high-tech supply chains for power generation equipment while boosting the local manufacturing capacity.
Prime Minister Bektenov also met with Maire Tecnimont President Alessandro Bernini to discuss projects in hydrocarbon processing and the production of high-value-added goods. The conversation focused on large-scale initiatives to build polymer plants and produce globally competitive products.
Maire Tecnimont has expressed interest in investment projects, including the production of polyethylene, butadiene, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and a gas separation complex. Notably, the SAF project was identified as a key contribution to Kazakhstan's green technology ambitions. SAF production is expected to reduce carbon emissions, improve flight safety, and position Kazakhstan as a leader in environmentally friendly aviation technologies.
Prime Minister Bektenov underscored the importance of large-scale infrastructure initiatives in diversifying Kazakhstan’s economy, particularly by enhancing the processing sector. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting foreign investors throughout all stages of project implementation.
