In Q3 2023, Kazakhstan witnessed an 11% increase in domestic tourists, amounting to approximately 5.4 mn individuals. Concurrently, the number of foreign tourists escalated by over one-third, reaching an estimated 835,000. This data was released by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ press service on February 13.
Almaty, with its appealing ski resorts, scenic landscapes, and agreeable climate, has become the preferred destination for international tourists, welcoming 409,394 visitors. Recently, the Shymbulak ski resort in Almaty received a global recommendation from the Italian edition of the esteemed magazine Condé Nast Italia. Furthermore, The New York Times included Almaty in its list of top 52 places to visit in 2024.
Astana, primarily known for business tourism, ranked second with 220,000 visits recorded during the same period. The Mangistau Region, with Aktau on the Caspian Sea shores, secured the third spot, witnessing the arrival of 34,435 foreign travelers.
The top five was rounded off by the Atyrau Region, which attracted 24,431 foreign tourists, and Shymkent, which saw 20,837 foreign visitors.
