President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan held a meeting with a high-ranking delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), led by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Crown Prince of Dubai. The discussions centered on strengthening the multifaceted partnership between the two countries, with a focus on economic and investment projects, as well as expanding practical cooperation in defense.
The UAE delegation included several key officials: Mohammad bin Abdullah Al-Gergawi, Minister of Government Affairs; Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy; and Omar Sultan Al-Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum conveyed the warm greetings of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, expressing gratitude to President Mirziyoyev for the cordial welcome.
The talks highlighted the creation of a new long-term agenda for mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in key sectors such as investment, innovation, "green" energy, infrastructure, education, healthcare, ecology, digital transformation, and tourism.
Both sides praised the outcomes of the joint forum held earlier in the day, which showcased the potential of bilateral cooperation. The meeting resulted in the agreement to develop a "roadmap" to enhance collaboration across strategic sectors.
Uzbekistan and the UAE enjoy a strong partnership, with the UAE being a key ally in the Asian region. In 2023, trade between the two nations grew by 21%, reaching $626mn. More than 320 Emirati-funded enterprises operate in Uzbekistan, and the portfolio of completed and planned investment projects between the two countries is valued at approximately $20bn.
This meeting builds on previous high-level talks, including those held at the Global Climate Summit in Dubai last December, reaffirming the commitment to deepening ties in various fields.
