Abdulwahab Sharif, Chief Business Development Officer at Sustainable Water Solutions (SWS) in UAE, unveiled a groundbreaking joint venture with Uzsuvtaminot during the recent Tashkent International Investment Forum in Uzbekistan on May 2. This initiative, slated to become the largest of its kind in Central Asia.
Under the theme "Water resources management: the role of the government, business, and society," key stakeholders discussed strategies aimed at enhancing water management practices in the country.
Dilshod Azimov, Acting Chairman of the Board of Uzsuvtaminot, shared insights into a successful pilot project conducted in collaboration with Switzerland. This initiative led to significant improvements in water supply methods and environmental safety within the region. Azimov also outlined key aspects of the "Uzbekistan-2030" strategy, highlighting its goal of ensuring 90% of the population has access to clean water. He emphasized the importance of partnering with international financial institutions like the Asian Development Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as collaboration between business and government, to achieve these objectives.
The joint project with SWS aims to utilize water resources from Salar and Bektemir. Sharif also shared insights from Abu Dhabi's water system, which integrates water collection, purification, and reuse processes. He expressed optimism about introducing similar technologies and approaches in Uzbekistan, which could revolutionize water management practices in the country.
The session underscored the importance of coordinated efforts between government, business, and society to address water-related challenges and prepare for future developments in this critical sector.
