U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-Mont.) has announced the formation of the Senate Central Asia Caucus, alongside Senator Gary Peters (D-Mich.). This bipartisan initiative aims to enhance the United States’ relations with Central Asian allies, focusing on increasing trade, investment, and supporting regional stability and security.
The Caucus comes at a time when Central Asia faces growing influence from global powers such as Russia, China, and Iran, prompting the need for strengthened partnerships to bolster regional sovereignty. Senator Daines emphasized the importance of reinforcing ties with reliable allies in the region, highlighting discussions with regional leaders and outlining objectives including boosting trade relations, promoting agricultural development, addressing human trafficking and migration issues, and expanding national security collaborations.
“Now more than ever it’s critical we strengthen our relationship with dependable allies in Central Asia. After spending extensive time in the region meeting with leaders and as our adversaries grow emboldened, Senator Peters and I look forward to working together to improve trade relations, boost agricultural developments, address human trafficking and migration concerns and increase national security partnerships,” Daines said.
The announcement was made during Uzbekistan Day on Capitol Hill.
