President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed progress on admissions to state higher educational institutions and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of education and integrating international educational programs, on July 15. The current admission cycle has seen an unprecedented participation of 805,000 applicants across the country.
Expansion and Improvement of Educational Offerings
Vital developments in Uzbekistan's higher education system were discussed, particularly regarding the state order plan for personnel training in the upcoming academic year 2024/2025. Quotas for bachelor's and master's programs in engineering, construction, natural sciences, mathematics, and information technology are being expanded to meet growing demand and align with the country's developmental needs and labor market requirements.
Admission policies for both state-funded and paid contract basis students emphasize equitable access based on academic merit and the institutional capacity of universities.
Consolidation and Innovation in Education
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the consolidation of educational institutions to streamline operations and enhance efficiency. The integration of the Termez Institute of Engineering and Technology with the Termez Institute of Agricultural Technologies and Innovative Development is underway to establish the Termez State University of Engineering and Agricultural Technologies. This strategic merger aims to optimize administrative functions, reduce redundancy, and foster a cutting-edge engineering education environment.
The new university will prioritize practical-oriented educational programs, fostering partnerships with relevant industries and establishing modern laboratories for research and development. International standards will guide the recruitment of foreign specialists to strengthen teaching and management capacities.
