Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, disclosed that approximately 10,000 migrants who acquired Russian citizenship have been deployed to participate in military operations in Ukraine. Bastrykin specified that these individuals are assigned to rear units tasked with constructing fortifications for special operations.
Bastrykin emphasized the enforcement of constitutional provisions and national laws requiring citizens, including those naturalized, to enlist in the military register and potentially participate in military operations when required. He noted that investigations have identified over 30,000 individuals who gained citizenship but failed to comply with this requirement, prompting their inclusion in the military register.
Meanwhile, Irina Volk, the official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry, reported significant actions against foreign citizens in Russia. Since the beginning of the year, over 30,000 foreign nationals have been deported, with an additional 100,000 entries blocked—a 55% increase compared to the same period last year.
In Moscow alone, the Main Directorate of the Russian Interior Ministry reported the expulsion of 2,000 migrants in 1Q24. Moreover, more than 10,000 foreign citizens faced administrative penalties for various violations of migration laws, including over 8,000 for breaching residence regulations and more than 2,000 for engaging in illegal labour activities.
