During the "C5+1 China-Central Asia Civil Aviation Conference" held in Xi'an, China, from June 17-21, Uzbekistan and China signed a bilateral intergovernmental agreement on air traffic. The conference saw representatives from the aviation authorities of both nations discuss and finalize several key issues, including increasing the number of air flights and opening new air corridors.
During the negotiations, the Uzbek delegation proposed significant changes to the existing air traffic agreement. They suggested removing restrictions on the number of airlines and flight destinations, increasing the current number of flights from 50 to 100 per week, and expanding the geography of flights by opening new air routes. Given the rapid development of bilateral relations, both sides agreed on the need to further liberalize the air transport market and enhance cooperation in civil aviation.
The negotiations resulted in several important agreements. The number of airlines authorized to operate regular flights between Uzbekistan and China was doubled. Uzbek airlines were granted the right to fly to 12 cities in China from all Uzbek airports, and Chinese airlines can now operate flights from any Chinese city to all international airports in Uzbekistan. The total number of regular passenger flights between the two countries was increased to 100 per week.
Furthermore, both countries' designated airlines were granted the right to operate 21 weekly cargo flights to third countries via all destinations in both nations. Chinese airlines can operate passenger flights to third countries through Samarkand and Nukus, while Uzbek airlines can do so through Xi'an and Chengdu, with seven flights per week each. Uzbek airlines were also granted the right to operate under a "Special open sky" regime at Haikou, Sanya, and Qionghai international airports in China.
Additionally, the two sides reached relevant agreements concerning codeshare agreements, aircraft leasing, and charter flights. The successful conclusion of these agreements marks a vital step forward in the bilateral relations between the two countries and point out their commitment to enhancing connectivity and economic integration.
