Uzbekistan and China expanded their flight connections to 20 per week, signifying a deeper level of cooperation between the two countries. The inaugural flight of Zhejiang Loong Airlines on the Xi'an-Samarkand-Xi'an route marked this increase in air travel.
The decision to increase flight frequencies comes after a joint statement was signed by the heads of state in Xi'an on May 18 last year. This statement outlined the Programme for the Development of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Uzbekistan and China for 2023-2027. Increasing flight frequencies to 20 per week is a tangible step towards realizing the goals set during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to China in January 2024.
This move is part of broader efforts to deepen ties, including the signing of an agreement to build a strategic railway linking China and Uzbekistan. This railway project, running from Kashgar in China to Andijan in Uzbekistan via Kyrgyzstan, is expected to bolster economic integration and trade between the three countries.
Additionally, both countries are looking to develop medical tourism, which could open up new avenues for cooperation in the healthcare sector.
