Uzbekistan ratifies ILO convention on equal treatment for workers with family responsibilities
Uzbekistan has taken a step towards ensuring gender equality and supporting workers with family responsibilities by ratifying the International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention No. 156. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the law that formalizes Uzbekistan's commitment to providing equal treatment and opportunities in the workplace, regardless of gender and family responsibilities.
The convention aims to eliminate discrimination in employment based on family status and ensure that individuals with caregiving responsibilities can effectively balance their work and family life. By ratifying this convention, Uzbekistan joins a global effort to promote workplace policies that support gender equality and family-friendly practices.
The Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Uzbekistan's Parliament, thoroughly reviewed the law before its ratification. It affirmed that all provisions of Convention No. 156 had already been integrated into national legislation, reflecting the country's readiness to uphold international labor standards.
Convention No. 156 has been adopted by 45 out of 187 member states of the International Labor Organization. Among these countries are Norway, Sweden, Spain, France, Japan, South Korea, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan.
