Uzbekistan's State Assets Management Agency (SAMA) completed the sale of eight-grain companies, fetching a total of UZS 403bn ($32mn). Seven other grain companies advanced to the second stage of the auction, with bids open until June 21, 18:00 (GMT+5).
The privatized companies include Oqoltin don mahsulotlari (88.45% state), Juma elevatori (63.8%), Bagʻdod don mahsulotlari (54.8%), Shoʻrchi don mahsulotlari (64.3%), Oqtosh Don (57.4%), Toshkent don mahsulotlari (51%), Qoʻqon don mahsulotlari (64.3%), and Samarqand don mahsulotlari (72.3%).
New owners are obligated to maintain the current activities of the companies for five years and preserve the existing volume of grain storage. They must also maintain the volume of grain in the state reserve at prices specified in legislation.
In December 2023, SAMA sold state stakes in four companies for $21.3mn. Additionally, in February and spring, the agency sold various other grain companies and properties for different amounts.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev previously instructed the sale of 33-grain enterprises from Uzdonmakhsulot by the end of this year, reducing their price to market levels. This move aims to address the issue of state assets remaining unsold for years due to artificially high prices.
