The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, in collaboration with foreign partners, prevented an attempt to organize a terrorist act in a European country. According to the State Committee, the suspects in this case are members of an international terrorist organization. One of the potential perpetrators was a Kyrgyz citizen hiding abroad.
The detained Kyrgyz citizen is involved in a criminal case under Article 256 of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan, "Participation of a citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic in armed conflicts or military actions on the territory of a foreign state or undergoing training for committing a terrorist act."
He was extradited to Kyrgyzstan and is now detained at the State Committee for National Security's detention centre.
Earlier, Kazakhstan's President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, highlighted the issue of terrorism in Central Asia, emphasizing the need for concerted efforts to counteract international terrorist organizations.
At a meeting in Astana on May 16, with the heads of the Security Councils of Central Asian countries, Tokayev expressed concern over the region's vulnerability to terrorist activities. He highlighted the importance of focusing on Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.
