The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic's gold assets were valued at KGS 169.8 bn ($1.9 bn) as of April 2024. This represents an increase of KGS 42.3 bn ($480.9 mn) since the start of the year. In 2023, the volume of gold assets was half of the current figure.
The National Bank's non-monetary gold and gold reserves were estimated at KGS 128.1 bn ($1.5 bn). These reserves have grown by KGS 145.6 mn ($1.7 mn) since the beginning of the year but decreased by KGS 39.8 bn ($452.5) compared to 2023.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Kyrgyzstan's gross international reserves reached $3.6 bn at the end of April, the highest level in the history of the National Bank. Previous record levels were $3.5 bn in March 2024, $3.3 bn in February 2024, $3.2 bn in September 2021, and $3.2 bn in December 2023.
In April 2024, gross international reserves increased by $166 mn compared to March 2024, and by $420.6 mn since the beginning of the year. Compared to March 2023, the reserves rose by $1.3 bn, a 56.4% increase. The National Bank utilizes these reserves to stabilize the foreign exchange market. In 2023, the bank conducted 14 interventions, selling $655.7 mn. In 2024, it has conducted eight interventions: two to sell $31.8 bn and six to purchase $113.4 bn.
