Kazakh-Belgian trade turnover totalled $523.7 mn in 2023, reflecting a 1.7% increase over the previous year, according to Anuar Kurzhikayev, the director general of the BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan. This announcement was made during a May 29 Kazakh-Belgian Business Council meeting in Almaty. Kurzhikayev emphasized Belgium's role as a significant trading partner for Kazakhstan within the European Union (EU) and highlighted its importance as a source of investment and new technologies.
Kurzhikayev stated, "In 2023, Kazakhstan exported goods valued at $220.7 mn to Belgium and imported items worth $303 mn from Belgium."
Kazakhstan exports molybdenum ores and concentrates, chromium oxides and hydroxides, flax seeds, titanium and titanium products, coal, wheat, self-propelled vehicles, ethyl alcohol, and transmission mechanisms for machines, equipment, and vehicles to Belgium.
In return, Belgium supplies tractors and tractor-trailers, petroleum products, machines and mechanisms for harvesting and threshing crops, medicines packaged for retail sale, vaccines, blood serum, blood, air or vacuum pumps, compressors and fans, machinery, and mechanical devices for special purposes, polyesters, and epoxy resins to Kazakhstan.
The Kazakh-Belgian Business Council, established to enhance trade ties, held its inaugural meeting in Astana last year. This forum provides a platform for discussions on mutual interests and aims to strengthen constructive interaction between the two countries.
