Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have set a goal to increase their trade turnover to $3bn, as revealed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov during a meeting with Akylbek Zhaparov, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and Head of the Presidential Administration.
In a move towards enhancing regional cooperation, Zhaparov met with Bektenov during the regular session of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.
Zhaparov highlighted the dynamic and expanding interaction between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan since the beginning of the year.
"On April 9, as part of your working visit to Bishkek, we held detailed negotiations on the entire range of bilateral cooperation," he said.
He further noted that President Sadyr Japarov's visit to Kazakhstan on April 18-19 and the 6th meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council "marked milestones in our relations.
Parties stressed the importance of timely implementation of investment and other bilateral projects to meet the ambitious goals set by their respective heads of state.
Prime Minister Bektenov emphasized the importance of trade and economic relations between the two nations.
"We must maintain this positive momentum and intensify efforts to achieve the new goal set by the heads of state - increasing trade turnover to $3bn," Bektenov stated.
Concluding the meeting, Zhaparov extended an invitation to Bektenov to participate in the International Energy Investment Forum, scheduled for June 10-11, 2024, in Vienna. This forum, supported by the World Bank and the Government of Austria, aims to attract global investments and foster international cooperation in the energy sector.
