Uzbekistan received humanitarian aid worth more than $197 mn in 2023, which marks a 2.1% increase from the previous year, the Ministry of Economy and Finance reports. Thirty countries contributed to Uzbekistan's humanitarian aid efforts in 2023. The main donors included Germany with $71.3 mn, China with $27.4 mn, and the United States with $23.2 mn. Belgium provided $22.6 mn, while Switzerland supplied $20.7 mn in aid.
The Committee for Sanitary-Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health received the largest share of the aid. This was followed by the 'Service of Support and Logistics' and the Research Institute of Haematology.
Earlier, Daryo reported that as of early 2024, Uzbekistan's public debt rose to $34.9 bn, reflecting a $5.7 bn increase from the previous year. This exceeds the expected figure by $2.8 bn. Uzbekistan's public debt now constitutes approximately 38.4% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP).
The external debt amounts to $29.6 bn, which is equivalent to 29.6% of the country's GDP. The domestic debt stands at $5.3 bn, accounting for 5.3% of GDP.
