Turkmenistan is discussing bilateral cooperation in the gas sector with the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). This was a key agenda during a meeting between Ashirgulu Begliyev, Advisor to the President of Turkmenistan on oil and gas matters, and Chen Huailong, General Director of CNPC's local branch, along with Chinese Ambassador to Ashgabat, Qian Naicheng.
The meeting centred on enhancing collaboration in the gas sector, executing current gas agreements, and exploring future partnership opportunities, including the second stage of the Galkynysh field project. Both parties acknowledged the effectiveness of working with CNPC and other major energy firms within Turkmenistan's favourable conditions.
The Turkmen delegation emphasized the significance of the oil and gas sector for the country's socio-economic advancement. Under President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's leadership, Turkmenistan is implementing a comprehensive strategy for the innovative development of its fuel and energy industry, with a focus on ecological considerations, modernization, and export route diversification.
Turkmengaz State Concern estimates Turkmenistan's hydrocarbon resources exceed 71 bn tons of oil equivalent, including more than 20 bn tons of oil and over 50 trillion cubic meters of natural gas.
