Kyrgyzstan offers Turkmenistan to maximize economic potential
The Chairman of the Kyrgyz Republic's Cabinet, Akylbek Zhaparov, extended an invitation to President Serdar Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan to maximize the opportunities presented by the countries' trade, economic, and investment relations, as per the Cabinet of Ministers' press release.
Akylbek Zhaparov, engaged in discussions with the esteemed President Berdimuhamedow on May 24, within the confines of the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS countries, hosted graciously in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan.
President Berdimuhamedow commenced the discourse by extending cordial salutations to his counterpart, President Sadyr Japarov, through the intermediary of Zhaparov, who reciprocated in kind. The diplomatic niceties swiftly transitioned into substantive matters, wherein Zhaparov seized the opportunity to extend heartfelt congratulations to President Berdimuhamedow on the auspicious occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of the revered Turkmen literary luminary, Magtymguly Fragi. In a reciprocal gesture of cultural reverence, Zhaparov expressed profound gratitude for the unveiling of a monument commemorating the illustrious Kyrgyz wordsmith, Chinghiz Aitmatov, within the esteemed cultural and park complex dedicated to Magtymguly Fragi.
The discourse, however, transcended the realms of cultural homage, delving deep into the economic contours of bilateral cooperation.
“In 2023, trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $63.6 mn. At the same time, there is significant untapped trade, economic and investment potential of Kyrgyz-Turkmen relations. I consider it necessary to further increase the volumes and expand the range of mutual supplies, to look for opportunities for joint entry into the markets of third countries,” said Zhaparov.
In resonance with Zhaparov's vision, President Berdimuhamedow reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to fostering mutually beneficial cooperation with Kyrgyzstan. With a nod to the strategic significance of transit transport and energy imports, Berdimuhamedov signaled Turkmenistan's keen interest in advancing collaborative ventures across multifarious domains.
The meeting culminated with a tone of anticipatory optimism, as Akylbek Zhaparov expressed the Kyrgyz side's earnest expectation of an imminent visit from President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, alongside the esteemed National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to the sovereign lands of Kyrgyzstan.
